Chile

In 2018 Chile will mark 200 years of independence, so there’s never been a better time to visit. One of the country’s most popular destinations is Easter Island. The island is famous for its statues known as Moai; however, the remote island has much more to offer visitors including beaches and dormant volcanoes. Torres del Paine National Park is a must-visit for hikers nature lovers. Finally, no visit to Chile is complete without a visit to the capital Santiago. Santiago brims with restaurants, museums, and public spaces to explore.

South Korea

The most popular destination in South Korea is the capital city Seoul. Although the city is known for its modern high rises, it also features enchanting historical districts. Bukchon Hanok Village features traditional Korean houses that shouldn’t be missed. The Korean Demilitarized Zone or DMZ is a point of interest for visitors who are curious about North Korea. Numerous guided tours are offered including some that visit the Joint Security Area (JSA). Some tours to the JSA even give visitors the opportunity to actually stand in North Korea as long as they are accompanied by a South Korean soldier.

Portugal

Due to its proximity to Spain, Portugal is sometimes overlooked by travelers. However, in recent years Portugal has emerged as one of the world’s top destinations. In Lisbon, travelers will find many exciting activities to take part in. One of the most popular neighborhoods to visit in the city is Alfama. The charming neighborhood features cobblestone streets and hills galore. Portugal’s beaches are another reason to visit the country. Over 300 of the country’s beaches are Blue Flag-certified which means they meet a number of criteria related to water quality and safety.

New Zealand

New Zealand has a reputation as a must-visit for travelers seeking adventure. After all, it’s where bungee jumping was born. Hiking, rafting, and skiing are all popular activities to participate in. Rotorua is known for its geysers, volcanic craters, and Maori culture. New Zealand’s lush landscape served as the background for the Lord of the Rings movies. Fans of the movie can visit the movie set that was used for the Shire. Many of the Hobbit homes are still on display. Animal lovers shouldn’t miss the whale and dolphin watching tours that take place in the waters of Kaikoura.
